Nikolay Morgunov was born in Moscow, Russia in 1992. In 2017 he moved to Barcelona, where he now lives and works.
Morgunov both contrasts and unite the natural and the unnatural with geometrically strict lines enhancing the organic surfaces beneath. Shadow-casting lines meshing with soft foggy backgrounds, a mossy green, spontanious surface perfectly squared in elongated rectangular sizes, broad harsh strokes with soft, bleeding pigments and the use of natural light itself, reflecting in watery lines, creating an intriguing and multi-dimensional experience. His elegant work with opposites, forces you to look beneath the surface and above the art itself.
Morgunov will have the following six pieces at display at Galleri Kai

"I aim to look deeper and not wider, seeking a new approach towards an already existing form. I’ve come to realize that there is no such thing as an end to this process, which truly fascinates me.
I am impressed by monumentality, where scale is essential and impact is everything. I want to create this effect on a more compact scale. The key here is the number of components and how they operate together. The lack of color in my work brings rhythm into focus. How we perceive different elements as a whole may not always be apparent, but through repetition, they can merge to obtain a new look, where integrity prevails over particularity."
